Creative Writing in the University of Kentucky Writing Center

The University of Kentucky boasts a storied history of Creative Writing. Producing a fifth of the Commonwealth’s Poet Laureates, the University has been home to such writers as Wendell Berry, Robert E. Hemenway, and Nikky Finney. Many prospective and current students and faculty members are ignorant of this rich history.

This website aims to provide an archive of creative writing efforts at UK. I hope this website will be a resource for students and administrators interested in the future of creative writing and the Writing Center at the University of Kentucky. Students and faculty can learn about the creative writing community in the late 90s in the Writing Center's Creative Writing Corner and its evolution into today's club Graphite and undergraduate publication Shale.

Leaders of current and future Creative Writing organizations and Writing Center activities should be aware of the artistic endeavors students have made in the past. Armed with this knowledge, they will be better able to serve their peers in offering outlets for creative training, expression, and community

The links above work like a timeline. Reading left to right will offer a comprehensive look into the work students have done to build community amongst creative writers on campus.

Enjoy, and go cats!
